When they do pick up the tempo in the second half, they sound a bit like Oingo Boingo. But overall, it feels clumsy and forced - obviously there's a lot of wordplay and passion invested in the lyrics, but the musical end doesn't really hold up. I can see why: they emulate a lot of elements of then-contemporary American and British pop, including the plodding, heartfelt, semi-acoustic ballad.
